LidApologies for my English! :thumb
But, I’ve been a long time lurker of this forum and a few months ago I was driving over to London. Just 25km outside the M25, my Opel Astra G 5-door z22se died with a bang and puff of smoke! One of the conrods snapped and shot through the front of the block!
So it was stuck in England and after lots of thinking, I asked one of the local mechanics to fit a z20leh and m32. The transplant went well, until we tried to start the engine. Nothing. No faults, no errors. The starter-motor turns the engine but the engine doesn’t fire.
I confirm that:
1) The key-chip and transponder are from the same car as the z20let loom.
2) Petrol pump works.
3) Petrol doesn’t get into the injectors.
4) No spark in the spark plugs. But the z20leh ran fine before the transplant!
Any ideas what’s going on? The mechanic thinks it’s the dash-loom (tacho instrument kabelboom?). But, I don’t know… it doesn’t make sense.

DeelnemerAnd where did the ECU come from? The key-chip + transponder + ECU must come from the same car.
My Astra G Coupe used to be Z22se aswell and I’ve put a z20leh and m32 in it also. I did not change the dashloom, it’s not necessary.
You do have to have to change the engineloom and the loom that runs around in the engine bay. They have to be from a z20let.

LidI just talked with the mechanic and asked him your questions:
He says the ECU, key-chip, transponder and engine-loom (including loom that connects to all sensors in the engine and engine bay) are from the same Astra Coupe turbo (z20let).
Still the starter-motor turns the engine but the engine doesn’t fire. :hmmz

LidAre you sure that the key is linked to the ehm what do you call it? Does it recognise your key?

DeelnemerDo you have the securitycode from the z20let ecu? Let VX reprogram your keys. Does the service light come up? Does it blink when you try to start?

DeelnemerYou must tell de ecu that you have the correct keys.
You must program your keys into de ecu from the z20let outerwise yoy don t can get a fire if the ecu reconise the keys13 maart 2012 om 20:42 #17765085Baas J.
DeelnemerAny update on this dedko?

LidGuys, the mechanic insists that it is the dashboard loom.
Keys, ecu, transponder and engine-bay loom are all from the same diner car (Astra Coupe turbo). So, I’ll try it. I want to buy a dashboard loom from somewhere. Marktplatz doesn’t seem to have anything and my Duth isn’t good enough to speak to my local car dump site. :(

DeelnemerBut where do you live? In the UK or in The Netherlands?
I do have a dashloom for you, but I’m quite sure that is not the problem.

I live in Amsterdam, but originally I’m from London. I’d be happy to get the dashloom from you.

LidUpdate:
Look like there is a compatibility issue between Astras made before 2002 and after 2002. Opel/Vauxhall/GM made an update to the loom in 2002 which affects the immobiliser circuit. My Opel (and therefore dashloom) is from 2001 and my engine bay loom is from 2003.“On the older looms the immobiliser signal goes direct to the clocks but on the newer looms it goes outside on one wire and back in on another.”
More info here: http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/showthread.php?t=350001″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
So, the 2003 dashloom I got from Baas should work on my car and resolve the problem. I’ll let you know how I get on.

DeelnemerFrom what I’ve just read on AON this could be the problem indeed… keep us posted Nik.

LidGentlemen, the engine is running! The car was started a couple of hours ago and it drives ok.
The doner loom, ECU and chips were all from 2001 (not from 2003 as I was originally informed) and therefore fully compatiable with the dashloom of my Astra which is also from 2001.
The problem was something much more simple; the mechanic had swapped the fuel lines by mistake. So, no fuel was going into the fuel rail!!
I am so relieved that it was something as simple as that and not much more complex.
Next task: RDW and how do I register the new engine with them?
